JoAnne Ferguson is in her 24th year of coaching college softball. She is currently a professor of physical education and head softball coach at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in Claremont, CA. Since her arrival at Pomona-Pitzer in 2006, Ferguson has successfully turned the softball program around culminating the winningest season in school history in 2019 - finishing with an impressive 31-12-1 record. Prior to Pomona-Pitzer, Ferguson served as the head coach at NCAA Division I George Washington University for two years where she also led the Colonials to a program-best record. Ferguson’s knack for transforming teams began at Kenyon College where she started her head coaching career from 2000-2004.
A native of Clarksburg, MD, Ferguson began her coaching career as an assistant at the University of Virginia from 1997-2000, while earning her master's degree in sport psychology. During that time she helped lead the softball team to appearances in three consecutive ACC championship games.
Ferguson graduated from Shippensburg University in 1996 with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in coaching.
